Quick Search:
A quick search looks at the abstract, title (of the article), author
name, and keywords fields of the documents. Enter your keywords(s)
in the box provided and click on the Search button.
Following steps will help you to perform a
quick search:
Enter your search term(s) in the available text box. Remember, you
can enter abstract terms, article titles, keyword entries, and author
names within this field.
Note: If you enter multiple terms, Quick Search will use an implied
'AND' connector. If you enter alpha beta gamma, Quick search identifies
them internally as "alpha AND beta AND gamma." Boolean AND,OR
and NOT are supported for article title, keywords and abstract searches.
In order to search for an exact phrase, you need to enclose the term
within quotation ("") marks. For example, if you want to
locate occurrences of the phrase "distribution of PDE 3"
you would enter "distribution of PDE 3" within the text
box.
Click the "Search" button, which is located to the right,
to execute the Quick Search. The quick search results list appears.
Advance Search:
Move from box to box on the search screen
using the tab key, filling in details as appropriate. All search fields
are case insensitive. Please be ensure that there must be no
space before or after search string.
You may find the following abbreviations useful to narrowing your
searches.
- Article title
- Author names
- Publication title
- ISBN and/or ISSN
- Volume/issue
- Year Range/Date
Article Title
The search string must be an exact match with the publication
title. For example: Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorting for Enzymatic
Activity . No operators or wildcards are allowed in this field.
Author Names
Search on one author name at a time. For example: Davis.
Exact Publication Title
The search string must be an exact match with the publication
title. For example: Current Analytical Chemistry. No operators or
wildcards are allowed in this field.
ISBN/ISSN
The search string must be an exact match of the ISBM/ISSN
number.
Month/Year Range
To narrowing the search for limited period of time, please
select the required month and year from the combo box.
Volume
A number of volume can be used to abbreviate the search string,
for example:2.
Issue
A number of issue can be used to abbreviate the search string,
for example:1.
Click "Submit" button to perform the search.
Quick Glossary
ISSN/ISBN
A standard international code allowing the identification
of any serial publication.
Operator
Also known as Boolean operators, there are three key operators,
OR, AND and NOT. These add precision and flexibility to searching
a database.
Search String
In this case, a sequence of words or characters.
Session
A period of time spent on an activity.
Wildcard
A special character that represents one or more
other characters, generally the asterisk (*) is used. For
example, search* would mean the word starts with search
but could end with anything. |
